Soft Stream

One of my most frequently shot areas is the Holtwood rec area. There are many streams and gorges of little creeks that flow into the Susquehanna River in an area that is set aside by Pennsylvania Power & Light (PP&L). Some of them are secluded but once you know how to get to them they really aren't. These wooded area's make you feel like you in the mountains far away from anyone. But I'm only 20min from my house in the city. I visited Kelly's run for the first time on Saturday. Turns out I've driven by the road to it quite alot till my wife showed me where it was, turns out to be quite a walk down hill to start. Then a steep climb uphill at the end. This shot I took with a special soften F/X filter to make the water silkier. Hope you enjoy.

Winter Blues

A couple of years ago I read an article by Jim Zuckerman on shooting in snow. Now this goes back to shooting with film but if you use a blue filter to bring out the coolness of snow, ice and water the effect is outstanding. But I didn't do that here, thanks to the digital age. Here during my post processing I set the white balance to fluorescent. To establish the blue effect. Thanks for taking a look.

Cool Ice

I took this shot right before the thaw we had this past week. At a creekbed near my house. It's always amazing the different patterns that ice gives us. Also we can add water to the mix and you can get really close to it. Really can lead you to another world that is right at our feet. Hope you enjoy this shot. I had my telephoto lens on macro to get as close as possible to avoid distractions that would take you away from the pattern of the ice.

Lancaster skyline

I've always wanted to get a picture of the Lancaster skyline from my house. Well at least I have a part of it. This is actually started as an expirement from my attic window with me leaning out the window with the tripod. I actually plan on shooting this scene again, with some sunrises, sunsets and at twilight. But for starters I think this is good. Hope you enjoy.

Winter at Holtwood

With temperatures reaching 50 degrees this weekend I wanted to make another trip to a creek by the Susquehanna River at Holtwood. This creek has become sort of a local favorite spot. I've shot this in different seasons and weather. I was also trying out new lenses. This weekend I changed over to Tamron lenses. They are in my opinion the number #1 manufacturer when it comes to lenses. In less then a week I've noticed the difference. The metadata for this shot was a shutter speed at 1/3 second, aperture of f-8 at ISO 100, and of course my tripod.

Orchids

I wanted to make another post of the Orchids at Longwood. This one really caught my eye right when I came in the door, at the conservatory. I liked where the branches were in conjunction with the Orchids. I also caught this right when the sun was reflecting on a pool of water and that's where the natural light came in at in the nick of time. Hope you enjoy
